Storage Overview

The Storage tab gives a high-level view of what syslog storage contains: how many messages arrived in each hour and from each originator, by severity. Use it to find when a problem started, or which originator suddenly sends more (or fewer) messages.

Click any count to see those messages in a view tab.

Calendar

The calendar on the left shows days that have messages in bold on a blue background; the more messages, the darker the blue. Select a day or a range of days; the table shows message counts for the selected days.

The number of days you can select together is set by Maximum selected days (1–999) in Manager Settings.

Days follow the server time zone.

Mode Rows

🕒 Time range

One row per clock hour of the selected days, grouped by Date. Columns: Time range, Disk size, ALL LEVELS, and one column per severity.

🎯 Originators

One row per originator that has messages in the selected days. Columns: Originator ID, Originator name, ALL LEVELS, and one column per severity.

When the selection has messages, a summary row on top totals it: ENTIRE RANGE in Time range mode, with the total Disk size, or ALL ORIGINATORS (N) in Originators mode.

Messages from deleted originators are combined into one <deleted> row, and from disabled originators into one <disabled> row. These rows have no Originator ID, and their counts do not open a view tab.

Open Messages from a Cell

Click a message count to open a new view tab with exactly those messages. The tab opens right away, without the New View Tab window.

The new tab loads:

  • the row’s hour (in Time range mode) or originator (in Originators mode); a count in the summary row covers all rows

  • the column’s severity, or all severities for ALL LEVELS

  • the selected days, and the Show: filter in Time range mode
