License Management

The Licenses window installs, selects, and uninstalls licenses for Syslog Watcher Server. Several licenses can be installed at once; only the license marked Selected applies.

On the Server toolbar, click Licenses.

Columns:

Column Description

Selected

The license in effect for this installation. Check one row.

Type

License edition (for example Professional, Enterprise, Ultimate). Evaluation licenses are marked (evaluation).

Key

Short form of the license identifier.

Max originators

Originator limit for this license.

Max msg/hour

Message-rate limit for this license.

Maintenance (support and updates)

End of the maintenance term (support and product updates).

Owner

Organization or person recorded on the license.

If no license is selected, the Free License is active (up to 3 originators and 5000 msg/hour).

Request Evaluation…​ installs a time-limited evaluation license from this same window.

Select a License

Check Selected on the row that should apply. Only one license can be selected at a time.

A newly installed license is selected automatically when no other license is already selected. If another license is already selected, check Selected on the new row after install.

The Selected License menu acts on the current list row, which can be a different row from the one with the Selected check.

Install License

Install License is a drop-down:

  • License Key…​ — activate with a purchased key (online, or offline via a request link).

  • License File…​ — install a .txt license file already obtained from EZ5.

Setting Description

Key

Required. License key in the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

Owner

Required. Company, organization, or person.

Email

Required. Used for technical support and notifications.

Click Install. When the license server can be reached, the license is installed immediately.

Offline Installation with a Key

If the license server cannot be reached, Syslog Watcher reports that the operation could not be performed automatically and opens a Web Link window.

That window shows the request URL and:

  • Open Link — opens the URL in the default browser (use this on a computer that has Internet access)

  • Copy Link — copies the URL

  • Save Link — saves a .url shortcut

  • A QR code (Link in QR code) for the same URL (scan from a phone or another computer)

Open the link on a system with Internet access. The license server returns a license file (.txt). Save that file, then install it with License File…​ (below).

License File

A .txt license file can be obtained only as a result of an offline installation request with License Key…​.

  1. Click Install License → License File…​.

  2. Select the .txt file and click Open.

The license is installed locally (no license-server call).

The .txt file can be installed only on the Syslog Watcher Server that generated the offline installation request with License Key…​.

Purchase, Upgrade, Renew License

Purchase License opens the Syslog Watcher license order page in a browser.

A paid license also offers Renew Maintenance and Upgrade License (browser pages for that license).

Reinstall License

Reinstall License…​ is on Selected License for a paid license (not for an evaluation). It is a simpler form of Install License: only the Key is required. Owner and Email are not requested.

  1. Select the license.

  2. Click Selected License → Reinstall License…​.

  3. Enter the license key.

  4. Click Reinstall.

When the license server can be reached, the license is installed immediately. If the computer is offline, the same Web Link window is shown as for offline installation with a key.

Uninstall License

Select the row, then Selected License:

  • Paid license — Uninstall License…​ Enter the same Key that was used at install, then Uninstall. If the computer is offline, the same Web Link window is shown as for offline installation with a key.

  • Evaluation license — Uninstall License…​ removes the evaluation without a key.

If more than one license is installed and the selected license is uninstalled, none of the remaining licenses is selected automatically. The Free License applies until another license is selected. Select another license before uninstalling.
