Storage Location and Limits
Syslog storage is a folder on a local disk.
Without a server, Manager can also open a storage folder directly; see Open a Storage Folder Without a Server.
What the
Storage button offers depends on the connection; see Storage Button.
Storage Location
The default location is C:\ProgramData\SyslogStorage7.
To change it:
-
Make sure Manager is connected to the local server.
-
In the Storage section of the main toolbar, click
Storage → Syslog Storage Location… -
Set Path to a folder on a local disk, and click Apply.
-
Manager disconnects from the server to apply the change; connect again.
Network folders (mapped drives and UNC paths) are rejected. To keep a copy of messages on a network or cloud location, use the storage archive.
| A new syslog storage is created in the new folder. Messages and storage objects in the old folder are not moved; the old folder stays on disk. |
| Check the disk with Test Storage Speed before moving the storage to it. |
Storage Settings
Storage settings are the retention limits. They are saved in the storage itself, not in the server configuration.
Open them in one of these ways:
-
► Connected to the local server: in the Storage section of the main toolbar, click
Storage → Storage Settings… -
► Connected to a remote server: in the Storage section of the main toolbar, click
Storage.
On a remote server, only users with the Admin role can change them; for other users the window opens as Storage Settings (Read Only).
| Setting | Initial | Description |
|---|---|---|
Delete files older than |
3650 days |
Maximum age of stored messages, in hours or days. |
Maximum storage size (GB) |
10000 |
Maximum total size of the storage. When it is exceeded, the oldest files are deleted. |
Files are deleted by clock hour, oldest first.
| The limits are applied only when Enforce storage limits is on in Storage Maintenance. It is off by default, so nothing is deleted until you turn it on. |
