Migrate from Version 6

When Syslog Watcher 6 data is found on this computer, Manager opens Migrate from Syslog Watcher 6 after connecting to the local server. The conversion is automatic.

Test (Dry Run) validates sources and destinations. It does not stop services, write files, or install a license.

Migrate converts Syslog Watcher 6 into Syslog Watcher 7. Confirm when prompted.

That run:

  • Stops the version 6 server service and the Syslog Watcher 7 Collector

  • Installs the version 6 license if one is present

  • Merges server and collector configuration, including email accounts

  • Converts version 6 forwarders to features

  • Imports knowledge-base files, filter lists, view layouts, and report templates

  • Points Syslog Watcher 7 at the existing version 6 storage folder (messages are not copied)

  • Leaves version 6 files on disk

If a password cannot be decrypted, the log marks it for re-entry as a secret string (Server toolbar → More → Secret Strings…​).

After a successful migrate, start the collector (Server toolbar → Collector → Start Syslog Collector).

Skip closes the prompt. It is not shown again.
