Generate a Report Now

Generate Report Now… runs a report in Manager on this computer and saves the file where you choose. Use it to test a new template or to run a one-off analysis. For reports that repeat, or when Manager is connected to a remote server, schedule the report instead.

Generate a Report

  1. In the Messages section of the main toolbar, click Reports Reports → Generate Report Now…

  2. In the Generate Report window, select a Report template.

  3. Set the message Range and, optionally, a Filter; see Generate Report Window.

  4. Click Generate.

  5. When the Generating Report… window closes, choose where to save the file. The suggested name comes from the template’s Filename template. Manager opens the file after saving it.

Manager is unavailable while the report is generated. To end it early, click Stop in the Generating Report… window. No file is saved.

Setting Description

Report template

Templates from the installation are listed as Installation: <name>.

Include folders

Optional folders for {{INCLUDE}} files, one path per line. They are searched after the ReportResources folder in the installation directory. Scheduled reports use the server’s Include folders instead.

Messages → Range

Time range of the stored messages to analyze; see Messages Range.

Filter

Optional; see Filter. Blank means all messages in the range.

Messages Range

Range Description

TODAY

The current calendar day.

YESTERDAY

The previous calendar day.

RECENT

The Last N minute(s), hour(s), or day(s), up to now. For a scheduled report that runs Once, the range ends at the run time.

ENTIRE STORAGE

Every message in syslog storage.

CUSTOM

Fixed From and Until date and time.

Filter

The filter has the same parts as a view tab filter: severity levels, originators or an originator group, and a Filter expression. See Filtering.

Narrow by severity and originators first. Syslog Watcher skips other messages while reading syslog storage, but tests the Filter expression on each message it reads.
